Moraira has about 8 kilometres of coastline, with sandy beaches for a full day out and rocky coves with crystal-clear water. These are our favourites, starting with the one closest to the house.
El Portet: the beach 5 minutes from the house
It's our favourite and the closest to Villa Serenita: about a 5-minute walk. It's a shell-shaped cove sheltered by the Cap d'Or headland, around 300 metres long, with sand, a few rocky stretches and very clean water.
In summer it has lifeguards, toilets, showers and foot showers, pedal boat and kayak hire and several restaurants with sea views. The path up to the Cap d'Or watchtower starts here. It flies the Blue Flag.
L'Ampolla: the town beach
It's in the centre of Moraira, south of the marina and at the foot of the castle. It's about 250 metres long and 30 metres wide, with fine golden sand and calm water.
It's the easiest beach with small children: there's a play area, sunbed and parasol hire, lifeguards and access for people with reduced mobility. Next to it is the Marjal del Senillar, a protected wetland.
Les Platgetes: two coves and a promenade
Two small coves of sand and rock with clear water, joined by a promenade with gardens and a viewpoint. In summer there are lifeguards, toilets and parking, and they also fly the Blue Flag.
Cala L'Andragó: for swimming and snorkelling
A calm cove inside the bay that runs from Punta de Moraira to Cap Blanc. It has steps into the water, a small car park and a beach bar next to it. Its clear water and marine life make it one of the best spots for snorkelling.
Rocky coves for the more adventurous
Cala del Cap Blanc (or Punta Estrella): small, rocky and quiet. Great for snorkelling, less so for small children.
Cala del Portitxol: rocky, on the road from town to El Portet, opposite the Club Náutico. Quiet, good for diving and fishing.
Cala Llebeig: no car access, only on foot along the cliff path towards Poble Nou de Benitatxell, or by boat. One of the prettiest coves on the coast.
Tips
Bring water shoes: almost every cove has rocks and you'll enjoy them much more.
In July and August go early, especially to L'Ampolla and El Portet, which get the busiest.
If you're staying at Villa Serenita, leave the car at home for El Portet: it's a 5-minute walk.
